ARMS MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
TIM HAGQUIST, DU9/KEØQ

Tim, DU9/KEØQ Our current Spotlight is Tim Hagquist, DU9/KEØQ. He is a missionary in the Republic of the Phillipines.

He was first licensed as a Technician Plus in 1996 and upgraded to Amateur Extra Class in 2000. Previous call signs were KN7PHG, KN7K, and DU1/KN7K.

Tim has been a member of ARMS since 2005. He says that, although he hasn't had a lot of time to pursue the hobby, he's always enjoyed meeting people via Ham Radio.

The DU9/KEØQ station includes Icom IC-706MKIIG and IC-718 transceivers. He especially enjoys CW, nets, and ragchewing.

Tim developed an interest in electronics at an early age. That interest served him well as he served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1974 as a sonar technician. He planned on making the Navy his career, but God had other plans. On October 31, 1971, he became a Christian and, as a result, his life was transformed radically (check out 2 Corinthians 5:17). He did two tours of duty in Vietnam. Then, in 1974, the Lord made it very clear that He wanted Tim to serve Him in full-time Christian service. So, after ten years in the Navy, he returned to civilian life.

Since then he has been involved in various ministries. He served for two years with the Military Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. Then, for eighteen years, he served as a pastor of churches in Southern California and Arizona. In 2003, he was appointed as a missionary with WorldVenture (formerly CBI). Curently, he and his wife serve in Mindanao in the Philippines. They attend the New Heights Christian Fellowship (Conservative Baptist) in Davao City.

Tim's first wife passed away suddenly in 1996. In 1997 he met Gloria, a wonderful single missionary who had served as a missionary in the Philippines for fifteen years. They married in 2003 and the next year moved to the Republic of the Philippines to serve the Lord together.

Tim's favorite Bible verse comes from Psalm 16:11 (NASB): "You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever."
