This week we spotlight Denis Parker, WD4ACH. Denis was first licensed in 1976 and currently
holds an Advanced Class Amateur Radio license. He wasted no time joining the ARMS Christian
Fellowship Group as he signed up in 1976.
The WD4ACH station includes a Ten Tec Jupiter transceiver, a Cushcraft MA5V vertical, a G5RV,
and a Bobtail Curtain antenna. Denis enjoys ragchewing on the air, wire antennas and, of course,
ARMS, for which he serves as tape editor. As tape editor he records the text of The Beam when it
is published and sends the tapes to several of our members who are blind. He is also director
for the Southeast Section of ARMS and serves as the Thursday Net Control Station on the 20-meter
ARMS net. He thanks everyone for their help with relays when he is NCS.
Denis committed his life to Christ in 1978 and surrendered to God's call to preach in 1980. He is
a former youth director at Temple Baptist Church and has served as an associate at Southside
Baptist Church in Knoxville for the past twenty-three years leading a senior citizen class. He
graduated from Liberty Baptist Bible Institute in 1985 and was ordained by Southside in 1988.
He has had numerous jail ministries including Brushy Mountain Prison in Petros, Tennessee,
where James Earl Ray was incarcerated. Denis is now a retired Respiratory Therapist after
working twenty-one years for East Tennessee Baptist Hospital.
Denis and his wife, Andra, live in Knoxville, Tennessee. They have been married for thirty-three
years now. She is also a ham radio operator--KD4CLF--and is a registered nurse. Of Andra, Denis
says, "She is the love of my life and I thank God for putting us together." Their daughter,
Kristin, is also a registered nurse. She has been married for about seven months to Nick Watson,
whom Denis describes as a fine young man. Nick is a carpenter.
Denis chose Romans 5:6 & 8 as his favorites Bible verses. "For when we were yet without strength,
in due time Christ died for the ungodly. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us."
